ABOUT SOBER ACADEMY

A decade of raising the standard in recovery training

Sober Academy was founded in 2015 by Ian Young, by Sober Services — the only training company to have delivered intervention and recovery training in the UK, Sweden, Holland, Russia, Italy and beyond.

OUR STORY

From London to the world

Sober Academy (part of Sober Services) is a leader in Europe in training for individuals working internationally within the addiction treatment and recovery sector — professionals seeking to enlarge their skill set to identify and provide best practices for clients, patients and their families dealing with substance use disorders or behavioural disorders.

We offer a comprehensive curriculum of accredited trainings specific to the addictions and behavioural health industry, assisting people in their aspirations to become trained, qualified interventionists, sober companions, recovery coaches and sober transporters.

THE PAUSE — AND THE RETURN

What happened during the pandemic

When the global pandemic arrived, we faced an honest question: does Sober Academy training bring the same value delivered remotely? We decided it did not — so we chose to pause training rather than dilute it, and used the time to build.

During that period we completed the creation of the Sober Practitioner program to accompany our Sober Intervention and Sober Companion trainings, and began moving into educational seminars helping students and professionals learn more about addiction, dependency, treatment options and recovery possibilities.

Now we are back. The relaunch begins with The Sober Intervention — live in Cyprus, October 30–31 2026, at the Holina Executive private estate near Larnaca.

ON THE STAGE

Featured presentations

Sober Academy has presented at industry events across Europe — including a featured keynote at iCAAD Stockholm 2018, where Ian Young spoke on intervention practice to an international audience of clinicians and treatment professionals.
